Mine ore, power your smelters, and clear byproducts to keep production moving. Your Beyond These Stars resources start around the Home Spaceship, then expand through mining, manufacturing, farming, and exploration. For Kewa's special fruit, keep the whale happy and dedicate storage to the harvest.
Which resources are in Beyond These Stars?
Resources include raw deposits, construction materials, food, drinks, clothing, power, and industrial byproducts.
| Resource group | Names |
|---|---|
| Ground resources | Impure Copper, Impure Iron Ore, Impure Sand, Impure Stone |
| Ores and minerals | Copper Ore, Crystal, Ice, Iron Ore, Sand, Shell, Stone |
| Ingots | Copper, Iron |
| Construction and industry | Battery, Cement, Chemicals, Electronics, Fuel, Glass, Laser, Plank, Steel, Tool, Wood |
| Growing and landscaping | Compost, Cotton, Debris, Sapling, Wheat, Wool |
| Food | Bean, Berry, Corn, Melon, Pear, Pepper, Potato, Squash |
| Ingredients | Egg, Milk |
| Meals | Cold Dessert, Cold Salad, Cold Snack, Hot Casserole, Hot Pudding, Hot Soup |
| Drinks and beverages | Cold Pressed Juice, Cold Smoothie, Hot Coffee, Hot Matcha Latte, Hot Tea, Tea, Water |
| Cloth and clothing | Heavy Cloth, Light Cloth, Cold Weather Clothing, Warm Weather Clothing |
| Byproducts | Goo, Organic Waste, Slag, Sludge, Soot, Wood Waste |
| Other resources | Power, Trunk |
Treat byproducts as part of your supply chain. Soot feeds other production and cleaning buildings, while Slag can go to a Fuel Plant. Leaving them inside their producers can stop the goods you actually wanted.
How do you set up Beyond These Stars production chains?
Start with Wood and mined materials, then connect powered processors and give both their main output and byproducts somewhere to go.
Start Wood, Stone, and ore production
- Run a Woodcutter to produce Wood and Wood Waste. Producing your first 5 Wood unlocks the Mine.
- Place a Mine beside a deposit. It gathers impure material and turns it into Stone, Iron Ore, Copper Ore, or Sand, depending on the deposit.
- Feed Iron Ore into a powered Ore Smelter for Iron, or select Copper when Copper Ore becomes available. Both outputs also produce Soot.
- Send Iron toward Toolsmith production and construction. Copper supports Power Lines and Electronics.
If building materials are slowing your opening, expand Wood and Stone production early. One player's approach was to invest more heavily in both at the start, then ease off as the initial construction rush passed.

Mine tasks for Iron, Copper, Stone, and Sand take 2s; the Ore Smelter's Iron and Copper tasks take 5s. Those task times exclude the workers' travel and hauling, so keep the next processor close rather than sizing your whole economy from the timers alone.
Deposits run out. Wait for the last produced resource to be collected, then move the Mine beside another deposit or demolish it. A moved Mine can work a different deposit type.
Match each material to its producer
Choose the building for the output you need, and budget space for its byproducts too.
| Output | Producer or route | Byproduct |
|---|---|---|
| Wood | Woodcutter | Wood Waste |
| Iron, Copper | Ore Smelter processing the matching ore | Soot |
| Plank | Sawmill | |
| Tool | Toolsmith using Iron | Slag |
| Steel, Glass | Metal Smelter | Slag |
| Fuel | Fuel Plant processing Slag | Goo |
| Fuel | Biofuel Refinery | |
| Shell | Trawler | |
| Cement | Cement Factory; Shell is used in cement making | Sludge |
| Electronics | Electronics Plant; Copper is used in electronics making | Goo |
| Battery | Battery Plant | |
| Crystal | Blast Mine | |
| Laser | Laser Laboratory | |
| Water | Sludge Dehydrator | |
| Compost | Compost Heap | |
| Sapling | Tree Nursery, using Compost |
These are producer routes, so follow the selected building's Work panel for its input requirements. Buildings with alternative outputs make one selected output at a time. Switch an Ore Smelter between Iron and Copper when you need to, but don't count the same building as simultaneous production for both.
Connect buildings to roads for construction and work. Powered chains also need a continuous connection to a generator. Early on, touching buildings can pass power along the chain; each processor does not need its own direct contact with the generator. See Beyond These Stars connect power when a supplied processor still won't run.
Add farming, clothing, and new growing space
A Farmhouse lets you plant three different crops at once. Pastures supply Milk and Egg from animals, with Wheat used as feed. A Pasture on a planet with sheep can produce Wool; exploring planets can also reveal Cotton seeds.
Cotton or Wool goes through a Weaver to make fabric, then a Tailor turns fabric into Cold Weather or Warm Weather Clothing. If your next chain needs resources beyond Kewa, plan around Beyond These Stars outposts.
For more growing space, make Compost in a Compost Heap to turn bare tiles green. Compost also goes into Saplings for forest planting. This gives landscaping a useful production goal alongside your industrial expansion.
Why do production chains stop even with room for the main resource?
A full byproduct store stops the building even when its main output still has space.
Check the resource flow screen before adding another factory. A missing input, a full output, and a missing byproduct supply need different fixes.
- Open the stalled building and inspect both output stores.
- Put an active Storage Shed close to the producer or the next building that uses its output. A shed can hold up to four resource types, 20 units each.
- Assign storage to the backed-up material so it can leave the machine. Add another shed if your temporary buffer fills before you unlock a useful consumer.

Once a shed is holding goods you want to leave stockpiled, Disable Workers releases its workers while keeping those goods stored. Keep an active shed available for the material you still need moved out of machines.
Storage buys time; it still occupies settlement space. A growing pile needs a consumer eventually. For the full storage troubleshooting route, see Beyond These Stars no output space.
Turn a Slag backlog into a Fuel stockpile
Move Fuel out of the Fuel Plant so it can keep consuming Slag and free the metal chain to produce more Steel and Glass.

One player placed Fuel storage near the Spaceport for exactly this reason: clearing Fuel gave the Fuel Plant room to process more Slag, which let the metal chain keep supplying Spaceport construction. Check the Fuel Plant's Goo output too, or the next byproduct can become the new blockage.
Keep Soot flowing when downstream buildings need it
Burner Generators and Ore Smelters supply Soot for Metal Smelters and Cleaners. If Soot is short, inspect those producers rather than only expanding the building waiting for it.
In Power Settings, enable continuous power when you need the generator to keep producing Soot. It still needs fuel and free byproduct storage. Excess power disappears once the connected grid's power storage fills, so you are spending fuel for the Soot.
You can switch a Burner Generator between Wood Waste and Wood. Check which input your settlement can spare before letting continuous production run.
How do you grow and stockpile Kewa's special fruit?
Keep Kewa very happy to generate fruit trees, then dedicate storage to the fruit so you can stockpile it for your Peeps.
- Check Kewa's health and happiness on the Galaxy Map. Reduce pollution, plant trees, extend water to new areas, and make positive conversation choices to support the whale's wellbeing.
- Look around the settlement terrain for fruit trees. Some can appear in places your Peeps cannot reach, so check access before choosing your collection area.
- Build a road-connected Storage Shed and dedicate storage to Kewa fruit. Let construction finish so the shed can serve the harvest.

The fruit improves Peep happiness, so caring for Kewa also supports the people working your production chains. Build the shed while Kewa is already happy instead of waiting for the first trees to appear.
With raw materials feeding processors, byproducts moving into consumers or storage, and fruit being stockpiled, you have a practical base for further expansion. Keep that harvest going by looking after Beyond These Stars Kewa as your settlement grows.
